Altlas Open Alpha! ... Open Alpha?

Trion Worlds is pulling Atlas Reactor into the spotlight with their Open Alpha event.
Everyone’s invited to play in our Open Alpha! Servers open on March 31 at 2PM PDT. It’s our last Alpha event before Closed Beta, so join us, come play some games, and preview some of the changes coming to Beta.
In this Open Alpha Event, you’ll be able to see some of the improvements we’ve made to Decision Mode and Resolution Mode clarity, as well as a bunch of balance changes – all based on feedback we got from our awesome community of Alpha testers.

The major software publishers seem to be intentionally confusing various stages of the software development life-cycle. This is not an Alpha. I participated in the Alpha testing phase (which was really a beta testing phase) of Atlas Reactor in September of 2015. About six months ago. When you are done with the initial testing of your game you move onto a beta testing phase. The beta testing phase sometimes include an Open Beta testing period where the general public is invited to participate. Developers and Publishers use Open Beta's to test their network infrastructure and the project under increased system load.

However, recently publishers have gotten wise and are actually growing more shrewd with each release. They started by Beta events to garnish publicity and generate hype for products. Then they began to offer buy-in's for Beta testing (this used to just be called head-start release / prerelease). Now it seems we have reached a new milestone ...

the Open Alpha. wtf.
